Half dollar production declined a bit at the Denver Mint during 1944-45, though the figures were still high within the context of the overall Walking Liberty series. The typical 1944-D half dollar displays good luster and strike, though fully struck examples are scarce for every date/mint in the series, this one included. Certified gems are plentiful through 67.
A minor RPM variety is known for 1944-D, but it has received little interest from collectors. More attention and demand exists for the one reverse die on which the designer's monogrammed "AW" has been restore by hand engraving. This shallow design feature was easily obliterated whenever a worker refinished the die to remove clash mark or erosion lines, but someone actually took the time to redraw it.
Beautiful and original 1944-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar with incredible rainbow crescent toning on obverse and reverse that pictures simply don't do justice! Recently purchased from a large estate collection and has fast, free shipping as always!
