Collectors were not aware until late in 1947 that this would be the Weinman design's final year. Many scrambled to save rolls of this date, but the relatively low mintage for a Philadelphia coin made this a bit challenging. While certainly not rare, the 1947(P) half dollar is a little more elusive than the issues immediately preceding in higher grades. It is generally a little better struck than the high mintage coins of 1941-45, and gems are very pleasing.
The only variety known is a very minor DDR.
Beautiful and original 1947 P Walking Liberty Half Dollar
recently purchased from a large estate collection in which I bought the entirety of because of the originality and rarity of the coins which have not seen the light of day in over four decades! None of these coins have ever been sent to grading, and I refuse to mess with the grading services, so truth be told...Some of these coins are grand slams! No reserves and fast, free shipping as always!
