Spectacular older piece from Karuru Village in New Guinea.  The item shows deep skin cuttings or tattoos.
This ancestor figure has been lightly cleaned and refinished by seller. Including the addition of formal hanging hardware.  The finish is a matte clear and item shows great aging and texture.
This is a high quality piece that is ready to hang and display on your wall. If I had more documentation, I would send to an upcoming Oceanic art auction.
This piece was to be auctioned off in the 70's but was boxed and lost when misplaced in the warehouse.  This item was appraised from 0 to 0 in the 70's, and a minimum accepted bid (reserve) of 0. In that period of time, that
was
a
significant
sum
of
money

Dims: 28 inches tall by 4.5 inches tall by 2.5 inches deep.  The piece is in great condition, has wood dents, scars, and blemishes associated with its age.
Superb example of Oceanic or Polynesian art. The piece is finished in a black paint, but exposed wood has been left alone to reveal its color. The item was sealed in a satin finish to protect this older piece, but not detract from its raw beauty.
I think this is a highly desirable piece and probably significant. This ancestor statue from Papua, New Guinea that was probably old when acquired.
