TOP OLD VINTAGE AND AGED ADMIRALTY ISLANDS CARVED WOOD CHARM ANCESTOR FIGURE WITH PIGMENTS AND INSERTED RAY STING
FROM PACIFIC AREA - ADMIRALTY ISANDS.
EX OLD VIENNA PRIVATE COLLECTION, former provenance: Schultze-Westrum.
This TOP OLD VINTAGE PACIFIC SCULPTURE consists of wood and shows a superb archaic figural shape.
The statue shows a standing male figure with great mythical face, large ears and ribbed headdress.
The top of the head shows an extension made of organic material and/or resin with an inserted ray sting.
The extension shows some decoration and one repair.
The arms are stretched down beside the body.
The body, the backside of the body and the arms and legs show carved incised line patterns and triangular patterns, which are partially inlaid with caolin.
The surface of the figure shows traces of red natural pigmentation, which is partially abrased.
The feet are rough carved and mounted to a solid collectors stand.
ALLOVER GREAT ORIGINAL DARKENED TO DRY AGE PATINA, crusty areas, some abrasion areas, age scratches, excellent signs of age and use !!!
Condition: superb and original AGED CONDITION, allover wonderful darkened to dry and crusty surface and age patina, abrasion and some loss of pigmentation.
Age: early 20th century.
Size: Total Height with stand 46.0 cm. Height of figure with ray sting 44.7 cm. Height of wood figure 31.9 cm. Width of figure 4.5 cm. Depth of figure 4.0 cm.
