    Antique H. E. BRITTON, Stoughton, MA, Rosewood Multi Tool Holder Handle, Pat. 1894
    .
    Horace E. Britton received his original tool holder Pat. 509,851 on Nov. 28, 1893.
    He revised his design for an 'improved' model and received Pat. 516294 on Mar. 13, 1894.
    The outside of the brass chuck collar has the maker info on two sides.
    The tool holding chuck shaft is stamped inside with the 1893 patent date. And the 1893 patent date is stamped on the wood just below the edge of the collar.
    Tool handles were cobbler’s tools but could also be used in woodworking.
    This is a ‘12 in 1’ leather, cobbler or woodworker’s tool. It has a screw off collet that when screwed off allows access to twelve different miniature tools.
    This tool only has 7 tool bits remaining. The handle is Rosewood or Cocobolo and is in Very good condition with minor nicks and scratches, but NO cracks.
    Tool is approx. 4" long.
    No owner's marks.
