    Description

Sepik Art Pacific Island Polychrome Carved Wood Ancestor Figure New Guinea 1963
From an upstate, NY estate. Purchased by the estate on a trip through the Pacific Islands in 1963. This piece came from New Guinea, but was pitched by the estate in Honolulu, Hawaii. Beautifully carved and painted large figure. Three serpents / snakes on the back & sides of figure, who holds a mask. Cowrie shell eyes.
Measures approx 29” tall x 8” at widest. Weighs approx 9 lbs.
VG condition overall. Has some significant cracking, one lower right part of base and extending about 7.5” up. And a very significant crack from the base all the way to the top, where the left serpent meets the figure. Still dispays beautifully.
