    Description

Offered for auction here is the booklet entitled "Rome-Arno". Rome had been declared an "open" city by the Germans, who put up little resistance to the Allied troops. Most of the fighting was on the outskirts. The major effort had been to the south, where Allied forces battled to break through substantial fortifications of the Gustaf Line and the Hitler Line, along with an attempt to capture the German fortress at Monte Cassino. A day after the capture of Rome, Allied forces landed on the Normandy beaches in Northern France. The Allies continued a slow push up through Italy, which continued until the end of the War.
