    Description

Here is a wonderful vintage flue cover in pristine condition entitled
    "Victorian Beauty"
found in the book "Flue Covers Collector's Value Guide" by James Meckley (my father) on page 136.
The covers were used at the turn of the century to cover the hole in the wall when stove pipes were taken down in the warmer months to be cleaned. They were primarily made in Germany and Belgium and were sold in hardware stores in the northern states where woodstoves were used for heating as well as cooking. This particular flue cover is 9 and 1/4 inches round with a plain tin frame that holds a lithographed picture and is covered with glass with a cardboard backing. There is a small link chain for hanging that is connected to the rim (this may have been replaced?). All the parts of this flue cover are original and have not been repaired or altered. The colors of the lithograph are bright and there are no water stains on the picture or on the back. The back is unmarked.
The flue cover is guaranteed to be authentic and not a copy or had the picture replaced
I will be listing other interesting books in the coming weeks.
