Interesting old sharpening rod that I think actually came from a butcher's shop, or somebody did their own butchering at home. It has obviously been used quite a bit, shows wear, but also has many spots and spatters of hardened grease on it. I didn't clean it because certain chemicals would ruin the paint, and it has an interesting look as it is, though for display you could probably get it looking good without damaging the original paint. First one I have encountered with this mark. Rod is carbon steel with magnetic tip, guard, ferrule butt cap and hanger are also steel, handle is wood.
Pictures show condition. Stamped just in front of guard "VOLK --<>-- STAHL." Measures 12-7/8" overall, 8" from tip to guard.
